Biography

Jonathan G. Zachary, Esq., an attorney since 2018, has called Florida home, on-and-off, for seventeen (17) years. Born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, Jonathan moved to Florida in 2009 and earned both a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree, with a Business Minor on a Pre-Law Concentration, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Southeastern University, located in Lakeland, Florida. Jonathan went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Regent University School of Law, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Prior to law school, Jonathan worked as a paralegal for five (5) years for law firms in both North Carolina and Florida. As a paralegal, Jonathan worked in the areas of family, probate, real estate, business, and criminal law, as well as insurance defense. While earning his law degree, Jonathan taught undergraduate business and law courses for Regent University’s College of Arts & Sciences and graduate law courses in the Master of Arts in Law program for Regent University’s School of Law. During his time at Regent Law, Jonathan externed with the Honorable Alfred W. Bates, III, current Circuit Court judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit of Virginia; interned with a local business litigation firm, now Davis, Burch, & Abrams; and earned the Faculty Recognition Award for his graduating class, the Class of 2018.

Following law school, Jonathan went on to pass both the Virginia and Florida bar exams in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Jonathan and his family moved back to the local area in 2019. Here, Jonathan worked as a staff attorney for the thirty-two (32) judges and court administration of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court, comprised of Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties. After his term with the Court, Jonathan prosecuted matters on behalf of the Office of the State Attorney in and for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, handling well over 1,000 cases from intake through conviction or plea, including felony, juvenile, misdemeanor, and criminal traffic matters.

After years serving to protect the local community as a prosecutor, Jonathan joined McDermott Law Offices, PLLC and now uses his litigation experience to serve clients in the family law arena. Jonathan maintains membership in the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar, Manatee County and Sarasota County Bar Associations, Family Court Professional Coalition, the Federalist Society, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his family and serving his community as both the Safety Director and the Youth Director at City Life Church, located in downtown Bradenton.
